Favourite Films

So I'm having a lazy day and decided to watch one of my all time favourite films, Labyrinth. As I'm watching it I decided that I'd do a blog on some of my other favourite films. I love old films, not black and white but still old. This list includes old and new films :)

Labyrinth was made in 1986 so just before I was born. I love it because it looks old there's little fancy computer work done on it and what has been used looks fake but it's still a great film. I love all the different characters and the use of puppets as well. It stars David Bowie as the Goblin King and he's amazing in it even though he has a very packed crotch. :P The first copy I had of this film was on tape which was taped off the TV. I have it on DVD now so I can watch it whenever. :) I won't talk about why I love each one would take me a while so here's a few more films :)

These are just a few films I like. I'm a Marvel film lover, I love most of them. I'm also a Disney film lover but Hercules is my favourite Disney film. I think I like mythology which would include Hercules, 300, Clash Of The Titans and Prince of Persia. I find that the characters and the monsters included are fascinating, so when I watch one mythology film I have to watch the others as well.

Any other films I should have included that you think are better?

Girl Guides :D

As I said in an earlier post I need experience working with children. Well I got in contact with a woman in Sheffield that sorts things out volunteer work with Guides etc. She told me that there are a couple of units I could help with but one was more interested as they are low on staff.
Tonight is the night where I go meet the staff and have a chat about what's going to happen. :s I'm nervous but at the same time excited. The location is a 50min walk away which is a bit annoying especially at night when it's dark, so I'll have to figure out bus routes and/or taxi costs.
I'm quite impressed with myself for getting organised by myself normally I leave stuff like this for other people to sort out. Not any more. I need to grow up and start getting involved with my own life :D
I will post an update on how it goes :D

Given out one CV as well. Ha! The job front needs work.
I'm working on it :D

Nail Review

As I'm sat here drinking a glass of cider and black I was wondering what I could next blog about and it hit me. My nails :p

For my 21st my mum said that she would pay for me to have my nails done for my birthday night out. Not just a French manicure but Shellac on my finger nails and Minx on my toes. I was very excited about it. :D

The pictures are off my phone so aren't great. You can see the designs on them though so it's okay. You can even see a small flower on my ring finger nail. That's because the nail technician was nice enough to put it on for a 21st present. :)

The way they put the shellac on is a special UV nail polish that when put under UV light, sets and hardens. It's weird not having to be so fragile with them afterwards as they are hard. The process is quite messy though as the UV light sets the polish on skin as well. There's no damage done but it can be quite tricky to get it off the skin. They are quite hardy as well, my mum's lasted about 2 weeks and she only had to take it off because it started to grow out. Getting a French manicure style is probably the best for wear as it's harder to see when the nail grows so can be kept on until it starts to chip. Full colour may not look as good after a week or so.

Mine have lasted just over a week and are starting to peel and chip now. A couple of chips were seen after a day but I think that's me being too rough with them. Overall I'd get it done again. However, I'm a poor student and can't afford it :/

On my toes I had minx done. As I can't afford to get them done often I had a bright design instead of simple metallic or block colour. The minx sheets are like stickers that they measure to fit the nail and cut out and shape to the right size. Once on they are heated, most likely with a hair dryer, for them to set to the nail. The technician told me that minx on the smallest toe nail has a preference to move as it's closest to the sides of shoes etc so she glued it on with super glue. I enjoyed these as well as there were so many different patterns and styles you could have. These also last until they grow out. The minx on my big toes kind of ruffled up but I think that's because I went out in heels on the day I got them done. As they are bright and busy it's not noticeable though. I would recommend getting this done as well. They are great for holidays and for general life as well.

Both products are meant to get taken off by technicians however, the shellac can be taken off with acetone which is found in certain nail varnish removers. The minx would probably come off with heat, like a hair dryer as well :D

Overall very happy with my nails and if I wasn't so poor I'd get them done more often :D

Need to make the most of it :)

So tomorrow I'm returning to Sheffield for my third and final year of study. It's quite daunting as I have to write a dissertation and at the moment I can't even remember what topic I chose which is highly inconvenient. I think it's on Youth Crime, along those lines anyway :p.

Sat at my computer looking round my room which, to me, looks bare. However, it's not. At all. Anyone else that walks in here would think I'm still living in it. As everything I love has been packed it's not lacking the true sense of me now. Sounds corny I know but it's true. If you've been to uni and seen all your things packed up you'll understand.

I'm very excited to move back to Sheffield and start having a life again but this year will be much busier than last year. Not in the sense of lectures as they are few and far between but finally I've found a sense of direction which I need to kick myself into gear to achieve. I've decided that I want to become an A level lecturer teaching Psychology. I think I'd be perfect because for some reason all my psychology teachers have been mental, especially at A level. I think I could keep that image going :p For this I probably should have chosen a teaching degree. Hindsight is a bitch however and I didn't so now I'm going to try and get on a PGCE not this year as I've missed it. To get onto this course though I need experience working with children so I'm trying to get some volunteering work at the local Guide group. If I get to do that then I'll be spending as much time there as possible. Also I need to try and find a job to earn some cash :/ At the current time this is quite difficult however, I'm going to try. This year, hopefully, will be filled with a job, volunteer work and studying. I was also thinking about joining a sports team as well.

After all those goals I still want to make the most of my last year at uni so I'll still have to fit in going out as well. Phew! Just thinking about all the stuff I want to do is getting me out of breath ha! Loser I know.

A bit of a funny story as well to add to the seriousness. My mum has very nicely bought me some items to take back with me food, toiletries etc and she put a bottle of Archers in as well. I noticed that the bottle was only half full and that we had a full one in the house so I swapped them however, I felt really bad about it. I've never read it but I know the story by Edgar Alan Poe about the ticking heart under the floor boards and the guilt swelling up until he couldn't take it any more. It was like that and I had to swap them back. My mum saw and just laughed at me because she thought I was stupid. She also added that I could take the full bottle if I wanted to. Moral to the story: Maybe just ask, it's easier. Ha!

Feeling a bit sentimental about leaving home again. :(
